Zucchini "Anchor"
Pack of seeds of squash "Yakor" with a brief description of the variety and recommendations for growing
Description of the variety and distinctive characteristics
Ultra early ripening variety, resistant to cold. It is characterized by intensive growth. From the moment of emergence of seedlings to the technical ripeness of the fruit, it takes 40-50 days. Bush plant, usually female flowering type, with weak foliage.
The fruits are cylindrical in shape. Zucchini have a thin, fragile skin of light green color. If the crop is not harvested for a long time, the peel takes on a light yellow tint. The pulp is soft, dense and tender, pleases with good taste, does not taste bitter, the color is light yellow. The weight of one fruit reaches from 500 to 900 g. The composition contains such minerals as iron, phosphorus, calcium and potassium.
How are seedlings grown from seeds?
For growing seedlings, marrow seeds are sown in mid-April-May. It is recommended to grow seedlings in solar greenhouses so that they receive maximum heat from the sun's rays. For this, special cups with a volume of 300-500 ml are used. It is advisable to hold the seedlings until the age of 25-30 days, but it is permissible to plant the seedlings in the garden and at two weeks of age.
Sowing seeds is not difficult: they are deepened by 3-4 cm, then the ones that have hatched from them are planted one by one, dry - several pieces at a time (when shoots appear, you need to choose the best plants, remove the rest). The soil must be watered abundantly with warm water, the glasses with seedlings must be removed to a warm place at a temperature of 25-30 degrees Celsius.
In a few days, shoots will begin to appear, and then the growth process will accelerate. During this period, the containers are transferred to a well-lit place, where the temperature is about 18 degrees. If this is not done, the seedlings will immediately begin to stretch, and after a couple of days they will be unsuitable for planting in the ground.
Caring for seedlings of zucchini Anchor does not provide any difficulties. From the first days these vegetables begin to grow intensively, almost do not get sick, if you do not neglect the rules of observing the temperature regime and watering. A completely viable plant grows in a month.
Technique for planting seedlings in open ground
Zucchini Anchor prefer moist soil, for this reason, drying the roots can negatively affect the yield. Before planting, the plant is watered, the soil of the holes is mulched, the dried soil is loosened - this delays the evaporation of moisture from the root horizons of the soil of the bush.
A week before planting in open ground, accustom the plant to life outdoors: take the plant out in the morning to fresh air, return it to the room in the evening. Follow the forecasts and plant plants when it's warm but cloudy outside. This should be done in the evening or early in the morning, but then cover the plants from the sun's rays.
Dig holes about 10 cm deep, spill them well with warm water. Put some compost and ash in each hole, mix with the soil. The roots of zucchini are poorly restored, therefore, you should carefully remove the seedlings from the container so as not to destroy the earthen lump.
Place the shoots in the holes, cover with earth until the cotyledon leaves, slightly compact the soil. After planting, water the soil around the roots with water at the rate of 1 liter of water per 1 seedling. Cover them with plastic wrap or non-woven fabric until the plants are strong enough.
How to properly care for zucchini?
When thickening, pluck out some of the foliage, especially under the vegetables. This procedure, although it reduces the yield, but promotes quick zucchini ovaries.
Care rules:
- Plants are watered as needed, when the soil dries up, it should not be allowed to dry completely. But an excess of moisture can also cause a decrease in yield, as well as the development of fungal diseases, which are susceptible to zucchini.
- The seedlings will have to be fed twice: when the third leaf appears and 10 days after the first feeding. Adult plants are fed three times per season: after rooting, before flowering and before fruiting. But the needs of the plant differ significantly in the phases of development.
- The plant's large leaves require large amounts of nitrogen, especially during the growing period. Manure, ash and humus contain a lot of nitrogen. Also, this substance will fill the plant with ammonium nitrate, urea, superphosphate and other mineral fertilizers.
- The use of phosphorus fertilizers will help in the formation of fruits and seeds, therefore they are applied during the flowering period. The simplest and most effective organic fertilizer is considered to be 300 g of frozen fish, twisted in a meat grinder, diluted in 10 liters of water.
- With a lack of potassium, the leaves not only turn yellow and dry out, but nutrients are hardly absorbed and moisture is absorbed, plants do not adapt well to drought and cold snaps. In this case, mineral fertilizers will help to correct the situation: potassium nitrate, nitrophoska, ammofoska. It is recommended to use ash from natural fertilizers.
- Zucchini also suffers from micronutrient deficiencies, especially boron. For this reason, foliar top dressing with a boric acid solution is mandatory, this is important when the temperature drops. This procedure helps to speed up fruit setting and increase resistance to fungal diseases.
- In order to use zucchini every couple of days for cooking or preservation, it is necessary not only to water the plants in the evening, but also to feed them with solutions of mineral fertilizers diluted with water. You will also need to make infusions of mullein every 20 days.
Zucchini can form ovaries only at temperatures from +11 to +30 degrees. A feature of this vegetable is that when the first ovaries appear, growth and flowering slow down. Because of this, you have to remove the grown zucchini once every few days. This stimulates flowering and the setting of new fruits, and also allows you to extend the fruiting of the bush by three months. As the seedlings grow, the soil around them is gently loosened and a little huddled.
When growing zucchini, it is imperative to strictly observe the crop rotation. It is better to choose for planting this vegetable, beds where legumes, potatoes, onions and cabbage were the predecessors.
When to Harvest?
Fallout of cold dew in August slows down the growth of zucchini fruits. You have to pay due attention to the zucchini in order to preserve the harvest. Underneath the fruits of the Anchors lying on the ground, strips of non-woven material or a handful of pine needles should be placed to prevent the fruits from rotting.
If vegetables are not immediately consumed for food, it is necessary to wait for its full technical ripeness. Its peel becomes dense, tough, and the length during this period reaches 30-50 cm with a weight of 1.5-2.5 kg. In this form, the root crops of the Yakor variety can lie in a dark, cool place for a month. Harvesting is carried out from July to the end of September. From 1 sq. m gardeners collect up to 12 kg of mature zucchini.
Advantages and disadvantages of the variety
The advantages of the variety include:
- resistance of root crops to short-term drops in air temperature in late spring and early autumn. This greatly simplifies the care of the plant, extending the growing season and fruiting of the bush. In central Russia, seedlings are planted under film shelters from the first days of May.
- drought resistance, which is especially convenient for those summer residents who can come to their site only on weekends. In addition, zucchini is unpretentious to growing conditions, but with a lack of attention when caring for the plant, the fruits can not only ripen for a long time, but also deform, become worse in taste.
The disadvantages of the variety are low resistance to fungal diseases such as gray rot, powdery mildew, white rot.
Reviews of vegetable growers
The Yakor variety is usually given a positive response. On the network there are various reviews of gardeners who tried to plant and grow root crops.
Irina, 36 years old, housewife. Zucchini Anchor needs constant exposure to sunlight and regular watering. I liked the fact that the variety is unpretentious in care. I tried to grow zucchini in a greenhouse, but it was not possible to collect even half of the crop, since most of it suffered from overheating. You need to harvest on time, I removed the fruits when their length reached 20 cm. Otherwise, the peel becomes rough and tough.
I cook hamburgers from zucchini, as strange as it sounds. Between two circles of zucchini I put peppercorn chicken fillet, sprinkle with herbs and garlic, wrap it in a lettuce leaf. All loved ones like it.
Alexander, 56 years old, farmer. In order for the Yakor variety zucchini to please with friendly shoots, I cut off weak shoots, since they inhibit the growth of the entire bush. I protect the plot from the wind so that it does not ruffle the leaves. Under protection, the yield of fruits is significantly increased. I take off the fruits often, because new ovaries are more likely to form.
